Fifty years ago, investing was simple. Individuals entrusted surplus capital to an asset manager who allocated it across asset classes to preserve capital and generate growth. Communication was infrequent, access was limited and expectations were modest. Today, the landscape is more demanding. While investors still expect strong returns, they also want real-time access to information, much broader investment choices and seamless digital access to manage their investments. They seek simplicity in how they engage, and sophistication in how their money is managed.

These shifts are redefining the investment industry. While some firms position themselves as full-service providers, STANLIB believes excellence comes from focused expertise and purposeful collaboration. We specialise in investment management and partner with experts in administration and platform technology to deliver a seamless experience for our clients. This model keeps us agile, deepens our capabilities, and ensures our clients benefit from best-in-class service across every touchpoint.

At STANLIB Asset Management, we’ve focused our strategy and strengthened our expertise to build a future-ready business.

Our investment offering includes active, passive and alternative investment solutions. We believe that no single strategy dominates all market conditions. Active strategies remain essential for delivering alpha, passive strategies offer cost-effective market exposure, and alternatives provide diversification and access to uncorrelated sources of return.

This philosophy is reflected in our equity offering, led by Rademeyer Vermaak and our Systematic Solutions team, which combines active insights with systematic precision and repeatability. We are seeing consistent, incremental improvements across our offerings, and that is what keeps us competitive and relevant.

We have also strengthened our global perspective through our strategic partnership with J.P. Morgan Asset Management, which we formalised in 2021. By collaborating with one of the world’s leading asset managers, we are bringing global insights into our business and specifically into our multi-asset strategies. Our Multi-Asset team, led by Marius Oberholzer, works closely with J.P. Morgan’s global multi-asset experts to ensure our clients benefit from their global insights and forward-looking strategies.

Combined experience of more than 1,000 years

As of December 2024, STANLIB Asset Management has over R500bn in assets under management. Our team of more than 75 investment professionals brings a combined experience of more than 1,000 years across asset classes including fixed income, equity, multi-asset, listed property, infrastructure and alternatives. We are proud to be part of the Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest financial services group by assets.

Over the next 18 months, the administration of investments currently managed through the STANLIB Linked Investment Service Provider (LISP) will transition to the INN8 Investment Platform. This transition is part of the Standard Bank Group’s strategy to modernise its retail investment infrastructure. INN8 is the Group’s specialist investment platform and centre of excellence for retail investment administration. It offers enhanced digital functionality, streamlined onboarding, and access to a broad range of local and global investment managers. The platform simplifies the investment experience while maintaining the high standards our clients, and their advisers, expect.

Our core mission at STANLIB Asset Management remains unchanged. As the Group’s specialist asset manager, we continue to deliver future-fit investment solutions with a focus on consistent, credible returns, while fulfilling our fiduciary responsibilities to our clients.

In a world where complexity is rising and investor expectations are evolving, STANLIB is not just adapting. We are leading. Through deep expertise, global partnerships and a forward-thinking philosophy, we are redefining what it means to invest in more. We are a progressive asset manager and we are not afraid to challenge the status quo.  The future of asset management is not just about returns. It is about relevance, resilience and responsibility. And we are ready.
