Do we need to say more than this: man, do we miss Dr Michael Mol on our screens. As one of the stars of Top Billing, he was a formative face of South African TV in the 1990s and 2000s.

Of course, the medical man hasn’t stopped there – he’s a practising doctor, speaker and entrepreneur. Most recently, he was among the headline names at this year’s Thrive by WHX conference in Cape Town, where longevity, youth wellness and the science of human optimisation were all on the agenda. We’ll definitely be there next year.

What’s the best book you’ve read in the past year – and why?

Peter Attia’s Outlive – because it democratises healthspan as an outcome that anyone can achieve through lifestyle changes and optimisations.

How do you keep fit?

Strength training, mountain biking and surfing – plus some creative writing for mental fitness.

Weeknight, low-key restaurant go-to?

Home-cooked meals, prepared with my family, trump most restaurants any day of the week.

What is the one artwork you’ll always love?

Michelangelo’s The Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel.

Do you have a hobby? What is it?

“Snowboarding on tar” – carving on a powered skateboard. It’s the closest thing to snowboarding in the suburbs of Cape Town.

The one unusual item you can’t live without?

My Meta Ray-Bans. I didn’t know I needed them until I wore them for the first time last month!

Who was your high school celeb crush?

My high school crush ended up becoming my wife (and still is, 30 years on). My celeb crush? Cindy Crawford.

Three songs you’d take to a desert island?

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2; We Weren’t Born to Follow by Bon Jovi; and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
