We’ve been wearing Colleen Eitzen’s cool, comfy and creative kit for decades – and so it’s unsurprising that we’ve got our eyes on the costumes and beachwear that she just debuted at SA Fashion Week. They are perfect for the mid-summer northern hemisphere holiday we’re already dreaming of as we sit in an increasingly wintery South Africa. Eitzen is also a founding partner of The Space, so you’ll find her brilliant attire there too.

What’s the best book you’ve read in the past year – and why?

The One Thing by Bruce Whitfield. It made me think about the future of our beautiful country. I’ve really tried to reimagine how we will progress with the right ideas, from the right people.

How do you keep fit?

With the help of my wonderful trainer, Thobisile Masilo.

Weeknight, low-key restaurant go-to?

Midweek curry at the Salt Rock Hotel!

Art you’ll always love?

A piece I own by renowned South African artist Deryck Healey.

Do you have a hobby?

I’m lucky enough to have a job that manages to harness all my creative energy, so I guess I don’t really have a hobby per se, but I do like a visit to the beach, where I can observe and enjoy different aspects of collecting pebbles, admiring plants and relaxing with nature.

The one unusual item you can’t live without?

My pattern-making scissors. I go crazy if I can’t find them – or if someone wants to use them.

Who was your high school celeb crush?

A tie: John Travolta and Australian pop star John Paul Young.

Three songs you’d take to a desert island?

Fade Into You, by Mazzy Star; Forever Young, by Bob Dylan; and any track by Van Morrison.
