We hate to be bearers of bad news, but rubbish weather is forecast across swathes of South Africa this long weekend. Find solace from the gloom in long naps, excessive chocolate eating and a dram or three of these two beauties!
Our pick this week:
Waterford Irish malt whiskeys
Cuvée Argot, R1,195.99, Woolworths
Cuvée Koffi, R1,795.99, Woolworths
Why we love them:
These two terroir-led Irish single malts from Waterford have just landed at Woolworths WCellar. Cuvée Koffi is all quiet swagger: layered, elegant and aged to smooth complexity (it’s made from 24 single-farm origin malts). Cuvée Argot, its wilder sibling, brings the energy! Zesty, spicy and unapologetically vibrant. We’re especially keen on the fact that, together, these two bottles represent a study in contrast, craft and just how good Irish whiskey can get.
Some extra tasting notes on the two gems for the swots among us:
Cuvée Koffi – a complex profile with aniseed, spices, tobacco leaf, summer fruits, strawberry pavlova and Ritz crackers. Expect a medium to long finish with gentle spices, honey and a fruity sweetness.
Cuvée Argot – flavours of bell peppers, granola, grapefruit, smoky barbecue, banana milkshake and green apple skin. The finish is long, warming, peppery and dry.
