It’s International Pinotage Day on October 8, and what better way to mark it than with this legendary take on the wine. All hail our beloved South African varietal and a global day to celebrate it!

Our pick this week:

Kanonkop Estate Pinotage

R669.99, Woolworths

Why we love it:

This is the stuff of legend, often hailed as the world’s benchmark for the variety. Deep ruby in colour and full bodied, it balances soft oak with grape tannins and enough swagger to hold its own alongside a grilled steak or even something spicy and Asian-inspired. South Africa’s homegrown grape doesn’t get much better than this.
