World Whisky Day is around the corner (May 17, if you’re marking calendars), so consider this your sign to sip something excellent.

Our pick this week:

Kilchoman’s Sanaig and Machir Bay Scotch whiskies:

  • Kilchoman Sanaig Scotch Whisky, 700 ml: R1,565.99, Woolworths
  • Kilchoman Machir Bay Scotch Whisky, 700ml: R1,295.99, Woolworths

Why we love them:

The Kilchoman distillery is a family-owned setup on Islay – which is one of the islands in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. When the team started to make whisky in 2005, they were the first new distillery on the island in 125 years. To get a feel for their style, try the Machir Bay Scotch Whisky, with its rich fruitiness and smoky butterscotch, or the Sanaig Scotch Whisky. It’s all dried fruits, spiced citrus, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke.
