What’s pinot meunier, you ask. Don’t worry – we also had to google it and now feel more cultured for knowing that this red wine grape is one of three main varietals used in the production of Champagne. It has a similar vibe in many ways to its brethren, pinot noir, but is higher in acidity, lighter and not as earthy.
Our pick this week:
Graham Beck Pinot Meunier MCC
R 849.99, Woolworths
Why we love it:
A South African first, the Graham Beck Pinot Meunier is as rare as it is refined. Crafted from one of the country’s scarcest grape varietals, it’s a masterclass in the pursuit of the perfect bubble. Fermented under cork for extra complexity, this limited-edition release delivers soft fruit notes, a creamy texture and bright, succulent acidity. It’s a true collector’s gem and, we think, a wonderful Xmas present for the bubbly fans out there.
