Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of France’s most storied wine regions – famed for its sun-drenched vineyards, pebbly terroir and robust reds. Situated just north of Avignon in the southern Rhône Valley, the area produces wines that are full-bodied, spicy and age-worthy – many made from blends of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre.

Our pick this week:

Cuvée des Antiques Châteauneuf-du-Pape

R 599.99 for 750ml, Woolworths

Why we love it:

This Cuvée des Antiques brings consistent drama: bold red fruit, warming spice and a flicker of menthol. Deep ruby in the glass, it’s a natural partner for game, rich casseroles or a proper cheese moment. Basically, we want a glass with absolutely everything we’re eating in this chilly weather.
