We’ve all paused mid-scroll when Xolile Vesile booms “Hello Juuuulia!” at an unsuspecting, perfectly preened lifestyle influencer. The Cape Town-based creator has become a TikTok sensation for his razor-sharp, laugh-out-loud reactions to cooking videos – part roast, part excellent education into the world of food and cooking terminology. With a sharp sense of humour and an unapologetic isiXhosa twist, he turns the weird kitchens of the world into a prime-time sitcom.
What’s the best book you’ve read in the past year and why?
I recently got Sifo – The Cooking Husband, Volume 2 by Sinoyolo Sifo – great recipes that I can’t wait to try and enjoy.
How do you keep fit?
Let me be honest and say I’ve been procrastinating and haven’t been committing myself. I started walking the dog though, and I really need to up my game because I need to make healthier choices.
Weeknight, low-key restaurant to go to?
I love going to Bossa Canal Walk with the family. If it’s just me and my wife, we try to find new places to go. I recently went to Maggy Lou’s and Kleinsky’s in Sea Point and loved them – I’ll definitely be back.
What’s the one artwork you’ll always love?
To be honest, I don’t have any artwork in my home right now. My wife handles that department, but we do have items that give our space that “arty” look.
Do you have a hobby?
I love watching forensic shows and listening to a lot of music.
The one item you can’t live without?
My phone 🤣🤣.
Who was your high school celeb crush?
Tyra Banks.
Three songs you’d take to a desert island?
Can You Stand the Rain by New Edition; Thixo Ukhona by Iphupho L’ka Biko; and Set Me Free by MarazA.
