Cabernet sauvignon may be one of the world’s most famous red grapes, but this Woolworths online exclusive from Restless River Vineyards offers a fresh take on the classic variety. Grown in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, just 5km from the Atlantic Ocean, it brings together ripe fruit, coastal freshness and plenty of character. It’s also a reminder that this celebrated wine region has more up its sleeve than just pinot noir and chardonnay.

Our pick this week:

Restless River Main Road & Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon

R799.99, Woolworths

Why we love it:

While Restless River Main Road & Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon sounds more like a meeting point than a wine, what’s in the bottle is well worth seeking out. Expect notes of cassis, red cherry, graphite and a touch of wild fynbos, all supported by silky tannins and unmistakable cool-climate freshness. It’s a gently rebellious cabernet that challenges expectations while remaining beautifully balanced.

As for food, this is a wine that appreciates bold flavours. Pair it with a hearty meat lasagne, a juicy steak or flavour-packed portobello mushrooms. And if cooking feels like too much effort, a generous cheeseboard laden with mature cheeses will do just as nicely.
