Temps have dropped, so open the red! This one is generous and full-bodied, with notes of blackberry, plum and dark cherry.

With the cold hitting over the past week, we’re turning to reds for their warmth and comfort. Malbec is a natural place to start, as it’s robust and packed with dark fruit. While it originates in France, it’s best known as Argentina’s flagship varietal.

That said, this version from Bellingham Wines is about as South African as it gets. Pandemonium Dandelion is rooted in the granite and shale soils of the Voor-Paardeberg, with a touch of Stellenbosch fruit adding freshness and lift.

Our pick this week:

Bellingham Pandemonium Dandelion Malbec

R199.99, Woolworths

Why we love it:

Malbec always arrives with a certain swagger, and Pandemonium Dandelion leans right into it. Plush, juicy, and packed with blackberry, ripe plum and dark cherry, it’s lifted by a touch of spice and a savoury hint of black olive. The result? A red that makes even a midweek pizza feel like a treat. Smooth and generous, it comes into its own with hearty dishes like roast lamb or slow-cooked beef short rib.
