We’re firmly in our wintery red wine era, and so in that spirit, it’s time to get on the, erm, saddle with this great blend of the stuff. It’s easy, dependable, and suited to just about any occasion, including ‘just because’ at the end of the day.
Some great related wine trivia: as the name suggest Constantia Glen Saddle Red is made in the Constantia Valley, which is the oldest wine region in the entire southern hemisphere.
Why we love it
If you’re not sure where you land on reds, a blend is a good place to start. This Constantia Glen version brings together Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, each adding something to the mix. The result is medium-bodied and well balanced, with ripe fruit, a touch of spice and a rounded finish. It drinks well now, with enough structure to cellar for up to five years. Best enjoyed with something hearty, think tomato-based pasta or BBQ ribs.
